Rebecca Webb is a high school visual arts teacher based in the Parramatta area, bringing with her a background in graphic design and a passion for photography. Driven by a deep appreciation for graphic elements and the allure of colour, Rebecca strives to ignite a spark in her students, encouraging them to explore uncharted artistic territories and embrace boldness in their creative pursuits. Drawing from her dual roles as a designer and photographer, she specialises in guiding students through the intricate realms of photographic and digital art. Over the past six years, Rebecca's artistic journey has been captivated by the serene and reflective moments of swimming pools during their off seasons. Notably, part of her ongoing series captures the essence of the Parramatta War Memorial Swimming Centre during its final days.
Parramatta Pool (2016)
"Within this series of images lies the essence not only of the closing chapter of the Parramatta Pool but also a deep exploration of the subtleties that often escape the casual observer. My fascination rests in the ambiance that lingers as once-vibrant public pools face closure, be it due to the shifting of seasons or, in this instance, the conclusion of an era. What was once a lively rhythm of jubilation and merriment now transforms into a contemplative stillness. I find myself captivated by the architectural poetics woven into this space—the mesmerizing geometry of checkered tiles, the bold angles of the tower, the weathered slide that has borne witness to countless moments, and the interplay of light dancing upon glistening surfaces. These details, once vibrant in their function, now echo with whispers of memories, creating a tableau that invites viewers to reflect upon the passage of time and the bittersweet beauty of transformation”.
With thanks to Rebecca Webb for sharing this evocative body of work with City of Parramatta
